There are various ways an individual can expand their knowledge, learn new things, engage in unfamiliar activities, and immerse themselves in a new culture. The 2026 Global Changemakers Programme, organised by the Arqus Alliance and held in Lyon, France, allowed twelve students, including myself, to experience all of these things and much more.

Through workshops ranging from informative talks on open science, communication, and culture to more hands-on and engaging activities, such as an inclusive and adaptable dance class and a treasure hunt, we learned valuable and lasting skills. As a result of these activities, among others, we developed new abilities and strengthened existing ones. One skill that I undoubtedly developed during the week was teamwork and collaboration.

In addition, through educational and inspirational talks, I acquired knowledge that will support me throughout my studies as well as in my day-to-day life. There were many activities and moments that stood out to me throughout the week, making it difficult to choose just one.
However, my two favourites would have to be the Dancing for Inclusion workshop and the design workshop we undertook. The former taught us how adaptability and inclusion are crucial in sports, activities, and everyday life. It emphasised the importance of empathy, consideration, and self-expression. The latter allowed us to work in groups and develop various prototypes and solutions to specific challenges presented by the professors. It encouraged us to think critically, both individually and collectively, while also having fun throughout the creative process.

I genuinely recommend this programme to any future student considering participation. You will undoubtedly learn invaluable lessons. Additionally, you will meet new people, make new friends, visit places you may never have been before, and create unforgettable experiences.
