Goin Connect was a Game-Changer for Me

Beginning your university experience in a foreign nation provides both enthusiasm and multiple confusing situations. Receiving my college admission became a cause for happiness, yet thrust upon me various new questions regarding my future coursemates. 

Searches exist to determine the most effective approach for campus readiness. The discovery of Goin Connect for students proved to be my most beneficial pre-arrival application, which I utilized as an international student. 

What is Goin Connect? 

The platform Goin’ Connect offers its users more than basic networking functions because it operates as an international student community platform. Incoming students who use this platform can link up with active students while locating future courses and university members before their arrival. The best part? It’s global. All international students have the chance to interact with fellow citizens through Goin Connect in addition to its helpful student members who share their same course experience. 

My First Steps with the App

Right after accepting my college admission, I opted for Goin Connect membership. The sign-up process ran efficiently, so I obtained access to my upcoming university students quickly. The comforting aspect emerged because every user had identical backgrounds as new students who wanted to connect.

The app features an easy-to-use interface for chat, but the invitation system stands out as the most significant advantage. Under the invite-only dynamic, users must approve your request before you can begin messaging each other, while the system controls unwanted contact perfectly. The security features made me comfortable when I decided to initiate contact with others.

Finding Your Tribe: How Groups Became My Go-To Support System

One of the most useful sections I found was the Groups. Students can create or join groups based on courses, hobbies, countries, interests, or activities. I joined some of the groups for my course, one for Indian international students, another for accommodation, and a few activities. These online groups became mini communities where any question could be asked: Which textbooks should I buy? Which sports club should I join? What should I even pack for Irish weather? 

Funny but useful: In the India long-distance group, one person set up a poll asking, “Who’s carrying a rice cooker?” That ignited a funny but useful conversation in which I ended up buying one for myself, as a student suggested that it’s difficult to get one here in Ireland. 

A Hub of Reliable Information

Goin’ Connect is not just for socializing but also provides essential information for international students. I found links to accommodation tips, immigration/visa, getting to Maynooth, student support, etc. These resources were of great help to someone fresh to the education system abroad. Rather than waste my time searching on Google, I could rely on the links given and begin preparing for my journey. 

If you have just begun on Goin’ Connect, below are a few tips from my experience:

• Complete your profile with a definite photo, your course, and a small introduction. These will help you connect well.
• Do not hesitate to send invites. Most students will be happy to talk. 
• Join some groups. Whatever it is, be it your program or your favourite sport. Groups help you meet like-minded people.
• See the resources. Before asking questions, check through the info tabs – you will often find the answers there. 
• Be active: You are likely to settle in faster if you engage more before arriving.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I honestly think Goin’ Connect did help in relieving my anxiety regarding moving abroad. By the time I arrived, I had already made a few friends to meet, knew what to expect with academics, and even arranged for my roommates. To any new student reading this: I would recommend downloading the app as early as possible and making full use of it. Your future friends, support system, or even next travel buddy could just be a message away.
